The section of the track leads bikers on a long climb to the main ridge between Queen Charlotte
and Kenepuru Sounds, but offers spectacular views.
The track is wide and can be quite steep in places. Watch out for drop
offs and rocky areas. Lots of undulation (short steep hill climbs).
Exposed ridgeline riding with great views. An easier option
on this day is to ride the Kenepuru Road from Kenepuru Saddle to Portage
Bay - great views also.
It is also possible to cycle from Camp Bay to Portage Bay via the Kenepuru
Road, which offers an easier ride at sea level.
DOC campsites are located above Bay of Many Coves and Kumutoto Bay at
the Black Rock Shelter. Near Torea Saddle, there is a DOC campsite at
Cowshed Bay. Accommodation providers in the Bay of Many Coves are the
Bay of Many Coves Resort, Craglee Lodge and Kulak Rent A House (see Side
Tracks). A variety of accommodation options are available in and around
Portage Bay in Kenepuru Sound including De Bretts and The Portage Resort
Hotel. Further accommodation options nearby in Kenepuru Sound are offered
by Hopewell Lodge, Raetihi Lodge and St Omer House. See the individual
operator listings below for further information.
This section is open to mountain biking throughout the year.
